Festive Eyelook for Diwali

Diwali is one of the most important festival in India. Festivities are planned on scale similar to Christmas. Everyone plans on food, gifts, party etc but few beauty crazed people think about the makeup they would be wearing for Diwali party 😉

And this is what I plan to do, a warm jewel toned eye look

Final look 1

I started with NARS Smudgeproof as the primer, followed by MAC Tan pigment all over the eyelid. Since I don’t get to use MAC pigments on regular basis, this was a good chance to have some play with them. It’s a beautiful rose gold colour.

Step1 MAC Tan Pigment

As the next step, I applied MAC Blue Brown pigment in the outer 2/3rd part of the eye. There was fall out but it can be minimised by using a flat dense eye brush. This is such a gorgeous pigment , beautiful duochrome. In this look, since I have used a rose gold color as base, the pigment looks more brown then blue.

Step 2 MAC Blue Brown Pigment

To give more depth to the look, I used MAC Foley and Embark eyeshadow as the socket colour. The key at this step is blending. Blend it enough to soften the line, yet keep the distinct colours visible

Step 3 MAC Foley and Embark

Using MAC Carbon as the outer corner colour adds that extra depth to the look. My favourite brush for this is Artiste dome shaped smudge brush. Its dense and pointed, so color application is precise avoiding the racoon effect.
Step 4 MAC Carbon

I finished the look with Loreal gel eyeliner, Milani Liquif’ye in Black on water line. On my lower lash line, I applied MAC Twink using an angle brush.

Maybelline Color Tattoo

Thanks to Yishan, I got a chance to try the latest addition to Maybelline Color Tattoo. Today, I will share my picks from the collection.

Being always short on time, I am always on look out of cream eye shadows which can help me achieve polished look. When I saw Barely Branded, I knew it fit the bill perfectly. A soft champagne colour which can be used on its own as lid shade(blended out well) or inner eye corner colour.

I have always wanted to try pink eye shadows but all that I have used till now make me look horrible. It was like, I wanted to love them but ended hating them. This was till I swatched Maybelline Inked in Pink Color Tattoo. It looks frosty in pan but doesn’t come across when worn. Initially, I was wary if it would work on my skin tone, but this shade has enough warmth in it to look good on olive tone skin.

I loved Maybelline Color Tattoo Electric Blue even before I swatched it. Its smooth, pigmented and so easy to work with it.

Maybelline Color Tattoo last well with base but on its own they last 2-3 hours without creasing. With the range of color and texture Maybelline offers, I don’t mind using them with a base. I will definitely be trying more when new colors are launched.

Have you tried these? What do you think of them?

Burberry Eyeshadows : Midnight Brown & Porcelain

Burberry eye shadow singles, are just what you would expect from a high end make up brand.
You fall in love with them all over again, every single time you use them.

I am naturally drawn towards warm shades like brown, taupe, so it was no surprise when I chose Midnight Brown.
Burberry Midnight Brown is a dark brown with shimmer and red undertone. I use this mainly as the shade for outer 2/3rd of my eyelid area and as socket colour
Even though it’s quite warm, I think it would look quite good on cool tone skin.

Midnight Brown-001

My choice for Porcelain was mainly driven by the fact that I wasn’t happy with highlighting eyeshadows in my collection.
Burberry Porcelain is just what its name is. A beautiful highlight shadow with enough warmth to work on warm skintones.
Most of the highlighting shades I have come across, appear frost like on my lids. But, not this one.

Porcelain-001

Both the eyeshadows, are pigmented, soft and easy to work with. Just wish that they cost little less

Have you tried any of the Burberry eye shadow singles? What do you think of them ??

Sleek Storm Palette

Sleek eyeshadow palette in ‘Storm’ is a beautiful mix of neutral and dark intense shades. A palette which you can carry when on holidays and it will cover your daytime to night time eye look. I had been lusting after it for long time and then I finally picked it from Crush Cosmetics

Sleek Storm

Quality wise they are great. There is minimum fall out and they last without creassing when used with primer.
I think what makes this palette a winner is the combination of shades and texture. There is matte shades for buffing and intense colours for giving the edge to an otherwise simple eye look. I think the most unique shade in the palette is the steel grey, 2nd from left in bottom row.

Have you tried any Sleek eyeshadow palette ??

An easy eye look

As part of LMFF inspired posts, today, I will be sharing an easy eye look. Not many products involved in this look and its low on skill level too.

I started by preparing my eye area, concealing all the dark circles and brightening the under eye area.

The products used are

Loreal Products

The swatches are in order of the product pics

Then I used, MAC Groundwork paint pot as the eyeshadow primer. It works well as a primer and also to even out the lid area

The look was created using Loreal Contour Kohl in black and Loreal Infallible Eyeshadow in All Night Blue

Line the upper and lower lash line with the Kohl, keeping it thick on the outer edge. It doesn’t have to be perfect.

Now, taking an eyeshadow brush place Midnight Blue along the Kohl line. Again it doesn’t have to be perfect.

Using an angular brush, blend the two. Blend it till the edges become soft. Apply kohl to water line and finish with mascara.
I have used Loreal Lash Architect 4D masacara.

Estee Lauder Shadow Creme in Antique Gold

Estee Lauder website describes  their Double Wear Stay-in-Place ShadowCreme as

“Creme eyeshadow delivers intense colour that lasts up to 15 hours and goes on fast.
Long-Wear, Stay-True Colour
It’s stay-true colour at your fingertips with matte to demi-pearl finishes.
Creamy formula goes on smoothly, blends easily.

I had picked this shadow when I was just starting in makeup and wanted a cream eyeshadow.

Estee Lauder Antique Gold

Antique gold was an automatic choice as color was warm and with very smooth texture. I have used it since then in multitude of looks and occasions. And it has delivered every time. I loved it so much that I gifted one to my sister as well 🙂

Estee Lauder Antique Gold Swatch

Color is beautiful, warm gold with antique look, true to its name. It applies smoothly and doesn’t need any base for color payoff or longevity in performance. I haven’t tested it for 15 hr wear but it doesn’t crease in an 8 hr workday.

The biggest positive of the shadow is how easily it can be used alone or in conjunction with other shadows and for both daily looks to special occasion ones.

Do you have any color from this range ?? If not, then swatch them in store, I am pretty sure you wouldn’t be disappointed.

SAX Eye Delight Eyeshadow Palette

The SAX website describes this as

“Perfect! Fresh, heavenly eyes can be achieved in minutes with sax’s “eye delight” eyeshadow palette. Contour, blend and highlight with silky smooth powders which glide effortlessly on to eyelids, for breathtaking beautiful eyes.”

The packaging of the product is similar to NARS rubberized case. The best is that it comes with a huge mirror, a great bonus and perfect to do your makeup on go.

The colors are leaning towards neutral and they apply beautifully. I won’t say much, but if you like neutrals and need to take one palette, this is your baby.

I have also posted an EOTD with this palette.

Chanel D’Ombre

Thanks to Jen from myfunnyvalentineblog I had a huge lemming for Chanel Illusion D’ombre. I so wanted this that I would have dreams of buying it. And I decided on the color based on a post about Frieda Pinto’s makeup where the makeup artist had used Ebloui.
Do you see a pattern ? Reading fabulous blogs can be injurious to your wallet.

Now on to the actual product.

Packaging :

It comes packaged in a jar with a small slanted tip brush. The brush is quite handy and be actually used with the shadows.

Color :
Its a deep burgundy color with multicolored shimmer particles in it. It reminded me of MAC Cranberry although with more brown in it.
Texture :

In the jar, it feels like sponge and when swatched its like a cream eyeshadow.

Performance:

I wore it both all over lid and as an eyeliner.
There was no creasing or flaking experienced even after 6 hours wear.

Would I Recommend It : Yes, definitely. If you want something easy to work with and do quick eye makeup, this is your product. The only sticking point is the price.

Availability : Myer, DJ, Chanel Boutique
RRP : $49 AUD

Update : Since I wrote this post as a draft couple of months ago, I have bought 2 more from this range. I will be posting swatches of them soon.

Wet n Wild Color Icon Eyeshadows

Today, I am going to share with you my recently bought Wet n Wild Color Icon Eyeshadows. Since they are not available in Australia, I got them off eBay for $7.99AUD each.
Packaging :
It comes with a clear case cover and set of brush & sponge applicator. The packaging is very flimsy and I don’t see myself using either the sponge or the brush.

I Got Good Jeans

Color :
Now, this is the fun part. I picked colors which didn’t exist in my stash.
I swatched them without any base and I am quite impressed with the color payoff
I Got Good Jeans

I ‘m Feeling Retro

I am yet to wear them out, so I can’t comment on their staying power but my first impressions are really  good about these palettes. You can definitely not go wrong with the price they are for.

L’Occitane is brand generally associated with quality skincare products. I have used few items from their range and loved it.
If I am not wrong, L’Occitane ventured into releasing make up once every year , since last year. I had browsed the range and one thing which caught my eyes was the packaging. There was something charming about the cardboard packaging. I was also curious about what L’Occitane had to offer in makeup. So, when I saw the indigo-kir-royale haul post, I was tempted to try something from this range.

I initially wanted to get Petals Eye Quartet but I felt the colors didn’t show so well on my NC 42 skin. But, this doesn’t take away any points from the eyeshadow’s texture, pigmentation …if it shows up on you,  its really great for the price.

I got for myself Corail Quadrille Duo Eyeshadow.

What I like about it :
  • Packaging. The cardboard packaging won me straightaway. Not just that, they have a small ribbon under the brush/sponge applicator which can be used to pull out the applicator easily.
  • Pigmentation. The color in the palette is achieved in one – two swipes with an eye primer
  • Texture. Its quite smooth with minimum fall out.
  • Even though its shimmer eyeshadow, its not over the top and can be easily used for daytime look
  • And what I love the most is that, this duo is enough to create a daytime smokey look

What I didn’t like about it :

Nothing till now.

Would I recommend it : Definitely, yes.

Availability : In store or online.
RRP : $ 26.95 AUD
